Our vintage Indian silk sari magic wrap skirt and dress can be converted to many designs. Inspired from the versatility of a sarong this hand made layer wrap skirt can be worn a variety of ways. Jedzebel, the “original silk sari” company has been working with tailors in the villages of India and importing these one of a kind wrap skirts long before competitors like Kariza. Our prints are hand selected and we have the best reputation for design and quality. These handmade skirts are eco-friendly and are made from vintage, recycled silk fabric. Jedzebel began 15 years ago when owners Janet and Ed Croteau met in Calcutta, India. They quickly discovered that they had both been purchasing similar items in India for resale in the US and became both life and business partners soon after.
The manufacturing of our clothing and accessory lines adhere to fair trade practices. Our silk sari based clothing, including the Magic Skirt, are made from small tailor groups in the villages of northern India. The fabric itself is 100% recycled and is purchased by our agents on the already long existing India used sari market. The saris are gathered from all over the vast Indian sub-continent. This process allows Indian women to sell back their used garments for cash and provides income for a variety of fabric middleman and transportation workers. Then the saris are cleaned and cut to patterns we design. The tailors are paid piece by piece for their work and they determine their own price based on the time it takes to make the samples (by the master tailor). Tailoring in the area where we work is considered one of the best jobs for a non-university educated worker. Many tailors work from their homes under a master tailor but many also come from impoverished areas of India to find work, living and working in the village and sending money home to their families.
